Stoneworking on La Via della Pietra

La Via della Pietra is a circular route through three places in the municipality of Braone. It conveys the history and the enduring heritage of local stoneworking. One particularly notable section leads to the abandoned Dosso degli Areti quarry. La Via della Pietra turns it into a small open-air museum about minerals, places and paths in Parco dell'Adamello.

From Braone, the Dosso degli Areti quarry can be reached on foot in about one hour and twenty minutes. The route initially follows the road towards Negola-Servil and then continues along a mule track. This allows you to combine an exploration of the local history of stoneworking with a specific hike.

Hiking above Braone

The Camminata Alta is a 4,250-metre circular route with a total elevation gain of 250 metres. It runs directly above Braone in the southern part of Parco dell'Adamello. Along the way, it passes through traditionally agricultural areas and submontane forest. The starting point is about 100 metres from the equipped Pom area, near the road from Braone to Niardo.

One route begins in Scalassone at an altitude of 1,060 metres, at the junction of Val Paghera and Val Braone above Braone in Valle Camonica. In addition, the section of the Cammino di Carlo Magno that runs through Braone passes mostly through forests and along comfortable paths, some of which are paved, offering views over the valley. The Cammino di Carlo Magno runs from Breno through Niardo, Braone and Ceto to Nadro. The various routes allow you to shape your stay around a circular walk, a longer connection or a landscape experience.

The high plateau and wetlands of Foppe di Braone

Foppe di Braone lies at an altitude of about 1,700 metres. The glacially formed high plateau is characterised by wetlands and surrounded by dense forest. It complements the lower forest and agricultural areas around the Camminata Alta with a distinctly different landscape.

Art and history in the town

Four memorial fountains from 1923 still stand in the historic centre of Braone. Braone is also home to an antique oven made of Sarnico stone dating from 1580. Casa Gronchi has Gothic windows and an Arabic-style door dating from 1511.

The parish church of Santa Maria della Purificazione preserves a fresco of the Madonna and Child from the Lombard school of the 18th century. It also contains a painting of the Purification of Mary by an anonymous 16th-century artist. A fresco triptych removed from the Lardelli house in Via Ziralda, depicting Saint Dominic, the Holy Family and Saint Peter, further enriches Braone's artistic and historical heritage.
