Holiday apartment in Bagolino: culture, mountain trails and local traditions
Bagolino between culture and mountain trails
Bagolino reveals itself through art, mountain trails, local traditions and products from the farm. If you choose a holiday apartment in Bagolino, you can spread visits to the museum and San Giorgio, the two trails and a tasting at La Malga del Re throughout your stay.
Experience art and history at first hand
The ethnographic museum “Habitar in sta terra” preserves collections of everyday objects and work tools. The objects document various aspects of Bagolino’s culture. Access to the ethnographic collection is possible only with prior reservation. Walk-in access is therefore not provided for; the reservation must be made before the visit.
The parish church of San Giorgio contains works by Titian, Tintoretto and Palma il Giovane. It is also known as the “Cattedrale in Montagna” (“Mountain Cathedral”). The Church of Saints Gervasius and Protasius stands on the rock of the same name.
Traditions and trails with their own character
During transhumance, cows, sheep and goats move through the streets of Bagolino together with their herders. The Bagolino Carnival takes place every year and passes through the town’s streets. The streets of Bagolino thus provide the shared setting for the animal herds during transhumance and the annual carnival.
The approximately one-hour trail to the Chiesetta di San Gervasio e Protasio is classified as moderate to easy. It begins near the Ponte di Romanterra and runs partly through meadows and partly through woodland. The trail to the Bruffione Lakes begins in Gaver, takes about one and a half hours and follows an easy route. The Chiesetta trail begins near the Ponte di Romanterra, while the trail to the Bruffione Lakes begins in Gaver.
Geology and the park by the Caffaro
The Bagolino GSSP section lies near the Ponte di Romanterra, south of Bagolino. It is well exposed at three points – sites A, B and C – in the riverbed of the Caffaro. The Pineta Park is another possible item on the itinerary: admission is free. There are therefore two different conditions for these visits: the museum collection requires a reservation, while admission to Pineta Park is free.
Bagòss and farm products
At La Malga del Re, you can taste Bagòss and other products from the farm.
The right holiday apartment for your travel idea
Those interested in culture can combine the works in San Giorgio with the museum and the churches. For a more active day plan, there are the trail to the Chiesetta di San Gervasio e Protasio and the trail to the Bruffione Lakes, with their different durations and difficulty levels. Depending on your interests, these elements can be spread over several days, with carnival, transhumance or a tasting at La Malga del Re added to the itinerary.
