Holiday apartment in Sorisole – Canto Alto, nature and culture

Sorisole combines a distinctive mountain landscape with geological features, hiking trails and a long-established local history. When choosing a holiday apartment in Sorisole, you can specifically take into account the area’s range from Canto Alto to the intermontane plain of Petosino, as well as its nature, geology and local history. The area extends from the intermontane plain of Petosino to the 1,146-metre summit of Canto Alto. Between them is a difference in elevation of around 850 metres – one of the defining characteristics of the area. The difference in elevation between Petosino and Canto Alto can also be considered as a planning factor when organising a day of hiking.

At Canto Alto, some ridges are characterised by open habitats and flower-rich summit meadows. At the Forcella di Camblì, grey, green and red, finely laminated claystones and marls with interbedded limestone layers and thin beds of black bituminous claystone can be seen. These rocks belong to the Marne di Bruntino formation.

Above Sorisole, the Morla is also particularly interesting from a geological perspective, as underground caves accompany its course. Together with the rock outcrops at the Forcella di Camblì, this creates a landscape shaped not only by peaks and meadows, but also by the forms of the underlying terrain.

Hiking trails and rock climbing around Sorisole

The Forcella di Camblì can be reached both from the Cappella del Pisgiù via CAI Trail 220 and from the Forcella della Rua via CAI Trail 113. Hiking Trail 220 begins at the “Pisgiù” restaurant north of Sorisole; a narrow road leads there, and parking is available at the trailhead. Planning the hiking day also involves taking into account the narrow access road and parking facilities at the starting point.

Above Sorisole, you will also find the Falesia Cörna di Marte. The rock face is equipped for free climbing and adds an option for those who do not want to spend an active day exclusively on hiking trails. Historic town centre and Bergamasque culture

The Chiesa di San Pietro is located in the historic town centre. The present church was begun in 1704 after the older church dedicated to the Madonna had been demolished. The Chiesa di San Pietro was consecrated in 1739 and elevated to the status of a provost church. Today, the Chiesa Prepositurale di San Pietro apostolo e Sant’Alessandro martire is considered a museum of Bergamasque Baroque art.

One of Sorisole’s characteristic traditions is the traditional Lotto dei Morti, which is maintained by the parish communities. On Canto Alto, the third cross, which is still standing, also commemorates a more recent stage of local history: it was inaugurated on 2 September 1979 and is 32.5 metres high.
