Holiday apartment in Mozzo: Between hills, cycle paths and history
Mozzo combines the Ciclovia dei Colli e del Brembo with historic townscapes and the La Porta del Parco area. Villas, religious buildings, hills and a farmers’ market offer different points of interest within the municipality.
Cycling and wide-ranging views
The Ciclovia dei Colli e del Brembo passes the vineyards of Mozzo and the green cycle path at the foot of Monte Gussa. For planning a cycling tour, the approximate length of around 46 km provides a clear planning figure. The route through the vineyards and at the foot of Monte Gussa brings two different landscapes together in the same route description. From the hilltops, there are views of Bergamo in its old walled and modern forms, as well as of the plain and the Brembo Valley.
Landscape in the Parco dei Colli
Part of the municipality of Mozzo lies within the perimeter of the “Parco dei Colli”. A spur of the hills of Bergamo extends into the municipality and reaches elevations of up to 357 m. The park landscape and the higher elevations give Mozzo a distinct landscape framework. The park perimeter affects only part of the municipality, while the hill spur extends into the municipal area.
Historic places in Mozzo di Sopra
The historic centre of Mozzo di Sopra preserves significant elements of medieval and rural fortification architecture. A Gothic portal from the vanished church of San Lorenzo has also been preserved there. Villa Lochis, known as “La Pinacoteca”, was built in 1840 to a design by the Ticino architect Fontana. Villa Albani stands in Mozzo, an 18th-century villa with an Italian garden. Villa Albani thus combines 18th-century architecture with an Italian garden. Villa Lochis therefore dates from a different period than Villa Albani.
In the park of Villa Bagnada stands a public oratory dedicated to Saint Francis, dating from 1661. The frescoed Oratory of San Giuseppe, dating from the 17th century, is also located at Villa Dorotina. Thus, in addition to the villas, two oratories described in different ways also form part of the historic townscape.
La Porta del Parco: market, gardens and events
La Porta del Parco includes a vineyard and an orchard. The area also contains social and community gardens, as well as a children’s playground. It is connected to footpaths and cycle paths for excursions. Cultural, artistic, workshop and recreational events take place at La Porta del Parco. A farmers’ market with local and organic products takes place at La Porta del Parco on Saturday mornings. Saturday morning makes the farmers’ market a clearly identifiable weekly event.
