Mezzoldo combines the mountain landscape of the Bergamo Alps with a multifaceted local history. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Mezzoldo, you will find a place with medieval roots and a past as an important logistical point on the Strada Priula. The 17th-century road connected Venice with Europe via Passo San Marco.

Mountain trails from the waterfall to Monte Cavallo

The CAI Trail 115 begins in Ponte dell’Acqua above Mezzoldo and leads to Passo di S. Simone at an altitude of 2,106 m. Near a waterfall, it climbs through pastures to the pass. The trail thus combines striking landscapes with a clear destination at alpine altitude.

Monte Cavallo in the Bergamo Alps can also be reached via CAI Trail 115 from Ponte dell’Acqua. The mountain is 2,323 m high. The challenging hike leads through forests and the pastures of Val Terzera and includes exposed and gravelly sections.

Within the municipality of Mezzoldo, the historic route and the hiking route run continuously from the cemetery to Passo San Marco. The recommended season for paragliding at Passo S. Marco extends from spring to late autumn.

The paragliding launch site is on the western side near the pass. It can be reached on foot in two minutes from the car park near the pass.

Historic trails and traces in the village

The Via del Ferro is a historical and nature trail that connects the former mines and smelting furnaces of Val Torta with Mezzoldo. It recounts the thousand-year history of iron extraction in the upper valley and adds a notable chapter of the region’s past to the hiking experience.

In the historic centre, the arcades of Cà Bereri recall earlier travel times: they once provided shelter for travellers. Preserved there are a portal bearing the Latin inscription “Hostium non Hostium” and a sundial painted on a nearby house. The Chiesa Parrocchiale di San Giovanni Battista was built at the end of the 15th century; the Chiesa di San Rocco in Mezzoldo was established during the plague of 1630 in honour of the saint.

The Borghi di Sparavera, Scaluggio e Soliva have medieval origins. Densely clustered houses, along with old fountains and washhouses, shape their appearance. Guided tours of the Itinerario del Rovelli are available by reservation.
