Sentiero 269 follows a still-existing historic mule track from Lenna through Bordogna, Baresi and Roncobello. At the hamlet of Forcella di Bordogna, a walkable path still branches off towards Valle di Fondra. The Chiesa della Forcella stands at this old trail junction; its porch served as accommodation for travellers. Near Bordogna, the Brembo flows through a gorge that the water carved out of the rock over thousands of years. At the same time, the penstock from the Baresi reservoir to the Bordogna hydroelectric plant shapes the landscape.

Routes for different day-trip ideas

The Giro dei cantoni di Lenna e Bordogna loop leads to the sports-ground area of Bordogna, where picnic and barbecue facilities are available. The Bordogna–Fondra–Roncobello route begins next to the Chiesa di Bordogna and runs via Via Case, along the mule track to Zucchero, and beside the Ria di Spì along the penstock of the Bordogna hydroelectric plant. A stream on this route can occasionally turn into a waterfall, visible from the provincial road towards Branzi.

Via delle Rocce is also one of the village’s notable trail routes. After a short paved section, it leads back to the old Castello Forcella di Bordogna and past the small cemetery of Bordogna. Discover churches and castle history

The Chiesa della Forcella has a single-nave layout, a small bell tower and a porch. The small mountainside chapel contains umbrella vaults as well as frescoes on the walls and in the vault spandrels. The Chiesa di Bordogna, also known as Santa Maria Assunta, was built from 1715 onwards on the site of an earlier church and consecrated in 1737. It preserves the square stone bell tower of the preceding church, which was later modified, among other ways, by the addition of bifora windows on the east and west sides.

The Cappella e Oratorio di San Rocco in Bordogna was built approximately between 1520 and 1526 on a former cemetery site as a votive chapel dedicated to Saint Roch and as protection against the plague. At Castello di Forcella, extensive enclosure walls with a square ground plan are among the archaeological remains. There are also the remains of a tower with sides measuring approximately seven metres. The castle appears to have been built gradually from the 12th century onwards and acquired a more complex form in the 14th century. It is said to have controlled the only access to Valle di Fondra and thus possessed a certain strategic importance.

A historical tradition of the Bordogna-Fondra family provides that the tenants of Alpe Mezzeno have continuously paid two wheels of cheese to the family’s descendants since 1400.
