Villa Adriana and Santuario di Ercole Vincitore

The remains of Villa Adriana in Tivoli, in the Lazio region, comprise approximately 30 buildings across 120 hectares of the Tiburtine Hills. Tivoli therefore brings together a 16th-century water garden and an ensemble of approximately 30 buildings across 120 hectares. The Santuario di Ercole Vincitore contains a significant religious building complex of Republican Roman architecture. Its construction began in the 2nd century BC. The complex also preserves an important industrial archaeological heritage. This includes mills, weapons workshops, foundries, a hydroelectric power station and a paper mill. The Santuario is open daily.

Ravine and Trails in Parco Villa Gregoriana

Parco Villa Gregoriana lies on the steep slopes of a large ravine carved into limestone by the Aniene. The park includes the Grotte di Nettuno. It is also home to 74 tree species. The trail descends on one side and rises again on the other; for trail planning, this means a route with a descent and a subsequent ascent. A trail proposed by FAI leads to the ruins of the Villa of Manlius Vopiscus.

For Villa Adriana, a Co.Tra.L. bus via Via Prenestina stops approximately 300 metres from the entrance to the site; access therefore includes the bus journey and the subsequent short walk to the entrance.

Pizzutello, September and Recreational Fishing

Written records of the Pizzutello grape from Tivoli have existed since 1575; another local name is “uva corna”. In Tivoli, the Sagra del Pizzutello is celebrated in September. Recreational fishing is possible in the area of Tivoli at the “Crocetta” trout farm. The September celebration marks a fixed period in the annual cycle, while recreational fishing is tied to the trout farm.
