Latina is a destination on the Via Appia Regina Viarum, where modernity and history meet. The Via Appia itinerary leads from the Pontine Plain over the Aurunci Mountains to the sea in southern Lazio.

Culture and history

Piana delle Orme is a theme park and museum complex dedicated to a fifty-year journey through 20th-century Italian history. It covers the traditions and culture of rural society, the major land-reclamation projects in the Pontine Marshes, the Second World War, the beginnings of industrialisation and historic toys. The visitor routes pass through meticulously reconstructed settings and display original collections. In Latina, Piana delle Orme is located at Strada Migliara 43 1/2, 29, 04100 Latina LT. For families, the complex has an outdoor area with 60 tables and 16 wooden pavilions for a day outdoors.

Latina was the first of the four founding cities built in the province of Latina between 1932 and 1937. Palazzo M is considered an outstanding example of the rationalist architecture that characterises Latina. The Torre Civica in Latina is 32 metres high and offers panoramic views over the city. The journey through 20th-century history in Latina begins at Piazza del Popolo.

The Museo della Terra pontina displays around 1,000 exhibits. It is an institutional reference point for preserving the historical memory of the Pontine area and traces the history of the local area in the 20th century – from the period before the land reclamation through agricultural transformation to settlement.
