The Sentiero delle Orchidee e delle Nevi is easier and approximately 4.5 to 5 kilometres long each way. At its base, a public clock shows the sun, the moon and part of the Roccamonfina landscape. The Santuario e Convento di SS. Maria dei Lattani is a remarkable example of 15th-century Campanian art.

Another route leads to the uninhabited ghost village of Cerquarola. In its immediate vicinity is a well-preserved ancient Nevera in the shape of an inverted cone. Alongside observing nature, such destinations give a trip a historical dimension. The PGI “Castagna di Roccamonfina” is reserved for the fruits of the cultivar groups Primitiva, also called Tempestiva, Napoletana, also called Riccia or Riccia Napoletana, Mercogliana, also called Marrone, Paccuta and Lucente, also called Lucida. The Tempestiva variety takes its name from its early ripening and is marketed from the beginning of September.

The Sagra della Castagna di Roccamonfina was founded in 1976 to celebrate the chestnut harvest and the sale of chestnuts. The historic chestnut market originated at the beginning of the 20th century and was held in the town’s largest square. This development explains why the chestnut can now be understood as a local theme connecting landscape, agriculture and tradition, without presupposing a specific event date.
