Padre Pio founded his first prayer group at Porta Madonnella. La Torretta was his accommodation from 1909 to 1912. Together with the Casa Natale di Padre Pio, this provides a chronological insight: Francesco Forgione was born in the room at Vico Storto Valle 27 on May 25, 1887.

The Museo Padre Pio di Pietrelcina tells the story of his life. It also displays paintings by Francesco Gentile depicting the surroundings and landscape that shaped Padre Pio's life story. Another stop is the Olmo delle Stimmate, the place where Padre Pio first received the stigmata in September 1910. Today, only a dry tree trunk remains.

Two Routes to Piana Romana
