It also features a permanent nativity scene with motifs from Bitetto's historic center. The museum uses the original kitchens and cells of the old monastery; a collection on popular devotion and local working and farming traditions has been documented there since 1985. Traditional crafts are documented, among other things, through workshops belonging to saddlers, potters and basket makers. Once a year, the rooms are used for a live nativity scene.

Porta Baresana and Palazzo Baronale Noya

Porta Baresana, also known as Porta Piscina, is one of the surviving remains of the medieval walls and is Bitetto's main city gate. Immediately outside the walls, next to this gate, stands Palazzo Baronale Noya, a fortified residence. Its courtyard façade is late Baroque and recalls Vanvitellian motifs. Thus, defensive architecture, the gate complex and representational design are closely linked in one section of the town's history.

The Via Peuceta through the Landscape

The second stage of the Via Peuceta leads from Bitetto to Cassano delle Murge. About 1 km after leaving Bitetto, the route enters a lush olive grove. It passes through broad plains with olive groves, almond groves and vineyards, where old masserie, trulli and dry-stone walls can be found.
