Kisapáti lies at the foot of Szent György-hegy, a nationally significant protected natural area.

When planning a trip to Kisapáti, you may wish to include renting a holiday apartment in your plans.

Nature

Alongside Badacsony, Szent György-hegy is one of the most significant witness hills of the Balaton Uplands; its slopes feature large basalt columns. It is the only location in Hungary where the Tschelling fern grows; the rare scaly fern and Lumnitzer's carnation can also be found there.

From the summit of Szent György-hegy, the panorama stretches from the Keszthely Mountains and the witness hills of the Balaton Uplands to Somló.

Culture and Tradition

Above the present-day cemetery stands the Szent Kereszt Chapel, which was built in 1244. The restored Szent Kereszt Chapel contains a late-medieval altar and fragments of medieval painted frescoes. The chapel welcomes tourists and other interested visitors.

The Roman Catholic Szent Kereszt Church in Kisapáti was built in 1875 for the veneration of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. Kisapáti traditionally hosts a grape harvest festival every year during the second week of September.

Hiking

The Kaán Károly forest lodge is open to day-trippers and hikers all year round. A circular trail measuring just under 4 km runs across Szent György-hegy, with seven stations in Hungarian and German; the trail passes the basalt organs before reaching the 414-metre-high summit.

Culinary Highlights

A few years ago, Kisapáti joined the Szent György-hegy Wine Route. Szent György-hegy pancakes are a sweet dish made with walnuts and meringue, which housewives like to serve at family celebrations and gatherings with friends.

The Szent György-hegy Days take place every year in April. The Szent György-hegy Days include a wine competition and conclude with a goulash cooking competition among the municipalities belonging to Szent György-hegy.
