Culture and history
In Szigeterdő stands the Kossuth sculpture group, which depicts the members of the first responsible independent Hungarian government. The group originally stood in front of the Hungarian Parliament.
The Dr. Szőke Sándor Local History Collection collects, processes, organizes and presents material and other memorabilia relating to the cultural development of Dombóvár and its surroundings. In addition to its growing collection, it presents interesting temporary exhibitions.
The Fekete István Museum presents the life of the well-known 20th-century Hungarian writer Fekete István. In the Szigeterdő residential tower, visitors can see an excavated and restored medieval residential tower; there is also a collection of bricks with maker’s stamps and an industrial history exhibition. The Szigeterdő residential tower can be visited at any time by prior registration.
Archaeological investigations indicate that the earliest construction phase of Gólyavár dates from the late 14th or early 15th century. The ruins of the medieval castle of the Dombai family, now known as “Gólyavár”, are visible on Road 611 on the outskirts of Dombóvár.
Thermal attractions and paths
Gunarasfürdő welcomes guests all year round with wellness, thermal and medical facilities. In summer, the outdoor pool has seven pools and a water slide park. Gunarasfürdő is a spa located about 3 kilometres from the administrative boundary of Dombóvár. The fluoride-rich alkaline hydrogen carbonate medicinal water of Gunarasfürdő was discovered in 1973.
Szigeterdő has a 600-metre-long synthetic running track and a 1.4-metre-wide paved path for runners and walkers.
Nature within the town
Szigeterdő comprises a natural area under local nature protection. The Konda Valley trail running through Dombóvár forms a green corridor with its species-rich and diverse flora and fauna.
In the Konda Valley, a footpath runs along the railway embankment of the former narrow-gauge Dombóvár industrial railway. The former Dombóvár industrial railway runs through the Konda Valley, Dombóvár’s largest nature reserve by area that is of local significance.

Rákóczi János was born on 25 September 1897 in Felsőleperd puszta, which belonged to the nominal municipality of Újdombóvár.
