Nagykálló: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

A defining landmark in Nagykálló’s townscape is the Reformed Church. The Baroque building was constructed around 1710.

Culture

The Szilágyi István Emlékház és Helytörténeti Gyűjtemény currently houses an ethnographic and local history collection. The Ámos Imre Képtár provides written information in English, German, Russian and Polish. Visits to the Korányi Frigyes Emlékház are possible by telephone appointment.

A living, sung and danced tradition of Nagykálló to this day is the Kállai Kettős, which has been maintained for four hundred years. The dance of the Kállai Kettős is one of the few dramatic dances in the Hungarian-speaking region. The Kállai Kettős Néptáncfesztivál has been held every two years in Nagykálló since 1971.

When the museum opened in 2005, the first room to be set up presented the history and choreography of the Kállai Kettős dance ballad.

Landscape

Nagykálló-Harangod, a 10-hectare hilly area of the Nyírség, lies on the northern and northeastern borders of Nagykálló. The hills of Hármas Hegy, Szomjúhát, Tókató Hegy and Pető-halom are also located in the surroundings of Nagykálló.
