Culture and History
The exhibition at the Zichy Mihály Memorial Museum is open year-round; guided tours can be requested. It is dedicated to an important representative of 19th-century Hungarian painting and graphic art. The museum also displays original furniture that the Zichy family saved from the war and from art collectors.
The manor house associated with the Zichy Mihály Memorial Museum was expanded in several construction phases. These extensions included a studio, which was completed by 1880.
The present-day Roman Catholic Church of the Penitent Magdalene in Zala was created by the Baroque remodeling in 1764 of the nave of a 13th-century church. The Roman Catholic church houses the painting “Christ on the Cross” by Mihály Zichy. During renovations in 1976, a Romanesque portal and three small splayed windows were uncovered on its southern façade, but were subsequently plastered over again.
The World War memorial in the churchyard names 17 soldiers who fell in the First World War and 16 who fell in the Second World War.
Nature
The park of the Zichy manor house is a protected natural area. It contains protected ironwood trees.
The Zichy family cemetery is a nature conservation area of local significance in Zala. At the same time, it is a well-maintained cemetery with Scots pines, black pines, and ash trees.
From the western edge of Tab, drive 1,400 meters along the road toward Zala, turn left, and reach the Zichy family cemetery after another 150 meters.
