At the northern end of Szentendre Island, the Danube divides: this is where Kisoroszi lies, a place whose attractions combine nature, village history and a range of activities. At Kisoroszi Szigetcsúcs, the view opens out over the river, the Visegrád Mountains rising beyond it and the Börzsöny mountain range on the opposite bank. Anyone who enjoys filling their holiday with landscapes and special discoveries will find several very different ideas here.

Szigetcsúcs: Floodplain Forest and River Views

Kisoroszi Szigetcsúcs lies in Duna-Ipoly National Park and is a nature reserve of national importance. Its flora and fauna are protected under Natura 2000. The area is characterised by a floodplain forest of willows and poplars. These trees provide shade; however, there is also a risk that trees may topple or dry branches may fall from the over-aged trees. Both are part of the character of this landscape and should be taken into account when visiting.

From Szigetcsúcs, you can see the Danube flowing through its divided river landscape, with the Visegrád Mountains in the background and the Börzsöny on the opposite bank. The site is also a campsite by the water, where tents can be pitched beneath the shady willows and poplars. Both the natural experience and the opportunity to camp are therefore central to a visit to the peninsula.

Village History and Architecture

The Kisoroszi Local History Collection brings the village’s past to life through objects dating from the 19th century to the mid-20th century. Its themes range from folk culture to everyday life. Anyone interested in life in the village can take a closer look at objects that make another era and its customs tangible.

The Ujváry-Ignác Studio also tells part of Kisoroszi’s story. In 1898, Ujváry Ignác had it built on the banks of the Danube specifically for his artistic work. The studio has retained its original condition: large windows, an easel, furniture and paintings on the walls define the space. For visitors interested in culture, it offers a different perspective from the Local History Collection: the focus here is on an artist’s working environment.

Two churches provide further historical highlights. The Reformed Church was built in 1803 in the Neo-Baroque style. The Roman Catholic Church is a late Baroque building; it was consecrated in October 1719 and dedicated to its patron saint, Our Lady of the Rosary. Their different architectural styles and dates of construction give architecture enthusiasts two specific points of reference for the village’s history.

Outdoor Stories and Golf

The Dunakanyargó Meseút is an outdoor trail with eight stops. At the fairytale houses, visitors can read stories about the Danube, water or the particular place. Each story comes with a follow-up game, an activity or a question to spark conversation. Families can discover the stories together and take up the prompts at each house.

The Magyar Golf Club Kisoroszi offers a very different activity: an 18-hole golf course, par 72. It is Hungary’s oldest 18-hole course. The historic Hungarian Old Course features natural dunes and undulating fairways reminiscent of famous English links courses. Anyone looking to make golf the focus of their stay will find a clearly defined option here; the fairytale trail, village history and river landscape, by contrast, appeal to different interests.

Ferry, Food and Choosing Accommodation

There is a scheduled ferry service between Kisoroszi and Visegrád-Szentgyörgypuszta. If a crossing is part of your plans, the timetable is relevant when planning your day. Szigetcsúcs Terasz is also located on the Danube bank near the campsite. The food venue serves handmade hamburgers, hot dogs and lángos.

When looking for a holiday apartment in Kisoroszi, you can start by asking yourself which side of the place you want to shape your holiday: the floodplain forest and views across the Danube, village history, the fairytale trail or the golf course.
