Dunaszentmiklós lies on the edge of the Gerecse Mountains, in a valley sloping down towards the Danube region. Anyone considering Dunaszentmiklós as a travel destination can plan to rent a holiday apartment there.

Nature

The Gerecse Landscape Protection Area also includes Dunaszentmiklós. On the outskirts of Dunaszentmiklós are the 427-metre-high Nagy-Somlyó and its cave; both belong to the strictly protected area of this region. Access to this strictly protected area is permitted only with authorisation and a guide.

The Dunaszentmiklós Kilátó lookout tower is a 10-metre-high wooden tower on the slope of Tündér-hegy. From there, visitors can enjoy views of the Danube and the Tata Basin and, in clear weather, as far as the Pilis and Vértes mountain ranges. The lookout tower can be reached on foot via well-marked hiking trails with gentle inclines; benches and tables are available in the surrounding area.

Culture and History

The present-day structure of Dunaszentmiklós reflects the architectural traditions of the Roman Catholic Germans whom József Esterházy settled there in 1733. Dunaszentmiklós is home to the Szent-Miklós Bishop's Church, built in 1911 in the Neo-Gothic style. Its exterior walls feature 14 colourful glazed ceramic reliefs that form the Örömút. Including the cross, its tower is 33 metres high.

Routes

The Dunaszentmiklósi Tájház is located in the centre of Dunaszentmiklós. After visiting it, the Dunaszentmiklós–Kőpite route begins in the village centre. It is a moderately difficult circular route for walking or cycling, covering 8.8 km with 176 metres of ascent and 176 metres of descent. The route passes the village's lookout tower, runs through vineyards to the turn-off for Kőpite, and then climbs more than 300 metres to a viewpoint on Kőpite Mountain.

Geographical Location

Dunaszentmiklós can be reached from Route 10 towards Süttő via a left-hand turn-off, or from Tata via Szomód. The wine-growing region running along the outskirts of Dunaszentmiklós is mostly located in the territory of Neszmély and is significant for wine production.
