Nature
The riparian forests along the Hotyka Stream consist mainly of black alder and willow species and are considered indicators of the sensitive balance of nature. The Hotyka Stream and the waterways surrounding it provide habitats for various animal and plant species and enrich the biodiversity of the protected landscape area. The Malomkő nature trail also leads to Makkoshotyka.
Culture and History
The present-day Reformed Church of Makkoshotyka was built between 1941 and 1950. The 17-metre-high tower stands in front of its southern façade and was completed as early as 1942.
The former Meczner Chapel was built in 1911 in the Neo-Gothic style. It has no tower; a wooden belfry stands beside it.
Meczner Castle was built by Rudolf Meczner in the Neoclassical style. Located in the centre of Makkoshotyka, the castle was renovated in 2011. It had already served as a cultural centre; the post office and a doctor's surgery are also located there.
The garden belonging to Meczner Castle is now the school garden and contains numerous old, valuable trees.
The open-air museum of Makkoshotyka displays objects from traditional and more affluent peasant life, including old horse-drawn firefighting equipment. The open-air museum is intended to be open to visitors daily; for visits on weekdays, advance notice is to be given at the mayor's office opposite.
