Loutráki combines a long central stretch of coastline with windsurfing in two seasons, churches in town and a thermal history dating back to antiquity. Archaeological remains in the wider municipal area add further dimension to the picture. The range of themes therefore extends from beach days to religious tradition, the history of the thermal waters and archaeology. Which of these aspects you want to shape your stay is also a helpful starting point when choosing a holiday apartment.

Beach and windsurfing in two seasons

Loutráki’s central beach is 3.5 kilometres long, stretching from the Corinth Canal to Loutráki’s coastal park. At the pebble beach, you can swim and sunbathe. The coast is therefore a concrete point of reference for anyone who wants to spend their days by the water. Its length and two endpoints give the beach a clearly defined place in the townscape, without requiring you to make any one section the focus of your stay.

Windsurfing is also among the beach activities: it is popular in Loutráki in both summer and winter; conditions may vary. Swimming and sunbathing offer a different focus from water sports. When planning your trip, you can consider whether you would rather include the coast for relaxing time by the water, for windsurfing or for a mix of both.

Thermal history and local culture

Loutráki’s thermal waters were known in antiquity as “Thermae.” One historical interpretation of the place name traces it to thermal baths above the thermal springs. The LOUTRAKI THERMAL SPA is located in Loutráki, on the northern bay of the Gulf of Corinth. Alongside the beach, this thermal history offers a second thematic way to explore the town as you plan your trip. You can weigh up whether you are mainly interested in the coast or whether the historical connection between the place name and the thermal waters is also among your holiday interests.

The churches in Loutráki include Agios Ioannis and Agios Fanourios. The Church of Panagia Giatrissa stands in the centre; the miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary is kept there. The Byzantine Church of St. Andrew is also located in Loutráki. Together, the churches offer several distinct points of interest in local culture, without prescribing a single sightseeing route.

An annual festival is also associated with the miraculous icon of Saint Giatrissa: Loutráki celebrates it for three days from 8 September. If you want to plan your trip around the festival, check the dates in advance. This lets you take both the religious tradition and your choice of travel dates into account.

Waterfalls and archaeological remains

At the artificial Loutráki waterfalls, you can relax over a coffee or another drink, listen to the water and look out to sea. This offers a different focus from the beach and windsurfing: here, the sound of the water and the view take centre stage.

The Heraion of Perachora is located in the wider municipal area. Its remains include an unusually designed temple of Hera, an L-shaped stoa, a large cistern, dining rooms and the remains of a possible second temple. The unusual layout is associated with the 6th century BCE. A stoa is a colonnaded hall; its L-shape adds another building type to the temple remains. Together with the cistern and dining rooms, it presents a varied archaeological picture, distinct from Loutráki’s churches and thermal history.
