Beach and seagrass near Mesongi

Mesongi beach is made up of sand and pebbles and has calm, shallow water. Sun loungers and umbrellas are available to rent; showers, changing rooms and toilets are also provided. Check these details again before your trip, as facilities may change.

There are tavernas by the sea serving local cuisine. They add a dining option with a regional connection to the beach experience.

The surrounding area also has a natural aspect: south of the village of Mesongi, Posidonia oceanica seagrass meadows extend into waters less than 1.5 metres deep. Another historical highlight on Corfu is the Archaeological Museum. It was built primarily to display the Gorgon Medusa pediment of the great Temple of Artemis. The pediment dates from 585 BC and was excavated near the Monastery of Aghioi Theodoroi in 1911. At the Kapodistrias Museum, the permanent exhibition explores the history of Corfu, Europe and Greece through the life of Greece’s first governor, using significant artefacts and documents.

Corfu’s nature and activity options offer different points of interest too. In the municipal unit of Achilleion, ancient paths wind through the wooded mountains of Agii Deka, Stavros and Garouna and are suitable for hiking. The 180-kilometre Corfu Trail passes through several settlements; Benitses is one of its 13 daily stage stops. Numerous festivals, folk festivals and cultural events organised by the municipality take place in the villages of the municipal unit of Achilleion. Programmes vary.
