Kinira combines beach days with visible traces of the village’s history. Two long beaches stretch along the village, and a small offshore island lies directly opposite. This means that both the coastal scenery and an interest in history can play a role in choosing where to stay.

Beaches and Coastal Scenery

The two long beaches differ mainly in their surface. One consists mostly of smooth white pebbles and sand, while the other is entirely sandy. Both have shallow, calm waters and are suitable for swimming; water conditions can vary. If you like having a choice between sand and a mixed surface for beach days, this difference provides a practical guide when choosing where to stay.

The small offshore island of Kiniriotiko lies directly opposite Kinira. It is covered in pine trees and has small rocky beaches, but is difficult to access. With its wooded, rocky coastline, it differs from the long beaches along the village.

History and Village Life

Ruins of Byzantine baths can still be seen in Kinira. The remains of the tomb of an important Christian king (basilica) were also excavated there. The visible bath ruins and the excavated tomb find are distinct historical points of interest. If you would like to include history in your choice of location alongside the sea, this gives Kinira an additional appeal.

Restaurants and tavernas, pizzerias, and a supermarket make it easy to find your way around the village. When looking for a holiday apartment, you can consider whether the combination of two types of beach, historical traces and these amenities suits your holiday interests.

The archaeological site of Aliki lies in the southeast of Thasos, next to Aliki Beach. It includes the remains of a temple dedicated to Apollo and the ruins of two early Christian basilicas dating from the 5th century AD. The Agora offers a different historical perspective: it was the political, social, religious and economic centre of ancient Thasos.

The historic route from Limenas is a 3.5 km trail through the ancient city of Thasos, on the site of which Limenas was built. Check current route conditions before setting out.

The ancient theatre of Thasos hosts the annual Festival of Ancient Drama. If the festival is important to your travel plans, check the dates for each year, as programme details may vary.
