Possidi: Cape, Beach and Pine Forest
Accommodation in Possidi
Possidi is a small fishing village at the first promontory of the Kassandra peninsula in Halkidiki. The village was built on the site of the ancient settlement of Mende. When planning a trip, several different attractions come together: the sandy spit at the cape, the long Aegeopelagitika Beach, pine forests above the beach and historical connections. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Possidi, you can consider whether you want to focus mainly on the coast, the trail or history during your stay.
Coast Between a Long Beach and a Shifting Cape
At Cape Possidi, the sandy spit changes shape depending on the season, wind and water; changes can also occur from one day to the next. West of the Kassandra Cape, the famous “Miti” near Possidi, Aegeopelagitika Beach stretches for more than three kilometres. It is sandy along its entire length, including the seabed. Several developed areas have sun loungers, parasols, toilets and changing rooms. Its facilities are awarded the Blue Flag every summer. Beach facilities and award status may change. The coastline can therefore suit different interests: Aegeopelagitika offers a long, consistently sandy beach with developed areas, while the spit stands out for its changing outline.
A Circular Trail Through the Pine Forests
The Possidi–Pinewoods–Possidi circular trail begins and ends on the coastal road, 300 metres south of the Possidi Holidays Hotel. The loop crosses a ridge through the pine forests above Possidi Beach; most of it follows forest roads. The focus here is on the circuit through the forest and the route over the ridge—different from a day at the beach. Route access information may change; check it before setting out, especially if you plan to make the loop a fixed part of your day.
Ancient Connections and the Lighthouse
The Sanctuary of Poseidon is near the village of Possidi, beside the beach. The history of Mende is also part of the area: Possidi was built on the site of the ancient settlement. The Possidi Lighthouse was built to monitor the constantly changing cape and assist boats in the area. It emits two flashes every 15 seconds to aid navigation nearby; these operational details may change. Alongside the beach and pine forest, ancient history and the lighthouse’s maritime function offer different points of interest for your trip.
Choose Your Holiday Focus in Possidi
When looking for a holiday apartment, it helps to decide first what you want to focus on: do you want the long sandy beach to shape your stay, would you like to include the trail and pine forests, or are you especially interested in the historical connections? These options differ in scenery and experience, not in rank. Then compare the location of the specific holiday apartment on offer with your own plans. This helps you choose Possidi as a destination based on what you want to discover there—from the shifting spit and beach to the forest trail and history.
