Weston-Super-Mare combines a vast sandy beach, sea views and distinctive piers with museums, aviation history and natural sites. Those looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home can therefore plan their trip around different interests: open-water swimming and water sports at Marine Lake, family activities at Grand Pier, historical discoveries or nature experiences at Worlebury Camp and Old Town Quarry.

Coast, promenade and water sports

Weston-super-Mare beach is framed by a broad promenade and distinctive piers. The seafront promenade is wide and level and offers uninterrupted sea views. This makes it a defining part of the town, whether you are spending a day by the water or simply want to get to know the coastal landscape at a relaxed pace.

Marine Lake on the seafront offers free open-water swimming and non-motorised water sports all year round. The lake is held back by Knightstone Causeway; the causeway contains sluice gates that regularly filter the water. Depending on the tides, the causeway can be crossed on foot. When choosing accommodation, you should therefore consider whether you want to focus on the beach, promenade and water-based activities or rather on museums and nature. Windsurfing and kitesurfing take place in the Windzone area of the beach. The more than century-old tradition of donkey rides is also part of Weston-super-Mare's coastal character.

Grand Pier and the town's history

Grand Pier is a covered attraction on the seafront with rides, arcades and family activities. At the same time, it has a distinctive historical side: the pier structure is Grade II listed. It was built in 1903/1904 to designs by P. Munroe and extended in 1905. The Pier to Pier Way cycle route begins at Grand Pier and adds an active perspective to the coastal experience.

At Weston Museum, the history of Weston-super-Mare is told through objects from the North Somerset Collection. The exhibitions cover the period from prehistory to the town's present day. Those interested in technology and aviation can find more than 100 rotorcraft from around the world at the Helicopter Museum. The aircraft are displayed in a weather-protected, covered hangar with more than 80 exhibits. On Open Cockpit Days, visitors can enter the cockpits of selected helicopters and have their controls explained by an experienced guide. Helicopter experience flights depart from the Helicopter Museum and offer views from an altitude of 1,000 feet.

The Weston Aviation Heritage Hangar provides further insights into aviation history, covering more than 90 years of aviation at this site. The Weston Aviation Exhibition uses a restored former pilot block to tell the story of the site and of flying activities in Weston-super-Mare. Unusual historic sites also include The Old Thatched Cottage, the last surviving thatched-roof house in Weston-super-Mare and a Grade II listed building. Tropicana opened in 1937 as a large open-air swimming pool with Europe's highest diving facility and was the venue for Dismaland in 2015. Birnbeck Pier ends at an island.

Nature and views

Worlebury Camp offers free access for visits and views of Sand Point, Brean Down and Weston Bay. An accessible path leads from the Weston Woods car park to the eastern ramparts. For nature enthusiasts, Old Town Quarry is another option: the site reopened to the public in October 2025 after extensive restoration and improvement work. It offers a community-led programme of events and activities. The wildlife includes woodland and cliff birds, marigold butterflies and the rare white-letter hairstreak butterfly.

This allows you to choose your accommodation according to the days you wish to travel: the coast and promenade offer water, sea views and entertainment, museums open up historical and technical subjects, while Worlebury Camp and Old Town Quarry show different sides of the landscape. For other places in the surrounding area, you can also discover Burrington, Bleadon, Nailsea, Easton-In-Gordano, Winscombe, Clevedon, Winford and Congresbury.
