Ettersburg lies at an altitude of around 317 meters on the northern edge of the Großer Ettersberg, next to extensive beech and oak forests and the open landscape of the Thuringian Basin. Ettersburg Palace was built between 1706 and 1712 on the foundations of an Augustinian monastery destroyed in 1525.
