Culture

From the 15th century onwards, Judenbach developed a tradition of trading in wooden toys. Woodworkers carved the toys in winter, and the products were traded throughout Europe.

The Weidner Collection displays around 400 mechanical toy exhibits designed and produced in Judenbach and the surrounding region.

On the former site of the Koppelhund toy production cooperative, the Judenbach Foundation operates a cultural centre. It presents the town’s toy-making tradition and the legacy of the Expressionist artist Ali Kurt Baumgarten.

Judenbach is a district of the municipality of Föritztal in the Sonneberg district, in the Franconian-influenced south of Thuringia.

The town preserves the settlement structure of a typical linear village. In the lower part, several side streets are grouped around the church.
