Pilgrimage Routes and Paths through Geismar

Pilgrimage Route 1 runs from Hülfensberg via Döringsdorf to Geismar, then passes through the village a second time via Rollsberg and Wilbich, before returning to Hülfensberg along the Stations of the Cross. Pilgrimage Route 2 runs via Döringsdorf, the former border patrol road, Lengenfeld/Stein, and the former railway line to Geismar; it returns to Hülfensberg along the Stations of the Cross. The routes therefore differ in their itineraries: Route 1 is distinctive for its second passage through Geismar, while Route 2 follows the sequence of places and sections of trail listed above.

The Hülfensberg Cross Ascent also leads from Geismar up to Hülfensberg along a processional way lined with lime trees. The Cross Ascent circular trail returns to Geismar through the Herrntal valley. Geismar lies between Wilbich and Kloster Hülfensberg on the third stage of the Leine-Werra Nature Park Trail: the stage runs from the Großbartloff waterfall via Wilbich, Geismar, Kloster Hülfensberg, Eichsfelder Kreuz, and Hildebrandshausen to the Lengenfeld rail-bike station. The Kanonenbahn Cycle Path runs from the former railway station in Dingelstädt via Lengenfeld unterm Stein and Geismar to Frieda in the Werra Valley. Since German reunification, a pilgrimage has been held on Hülfensberg every year on October 3, German Unity Day.
