Its landscape also includes alder and birch carr woodlands, which are protected by law as biotopes.

Nature

Nearby is Nordoe, which is designated as a 407-hectare nature reserve, a Natura 2000 site and a National Natural Heritage site. It contains inland dunes, wet heathland, dry heathland, oak-birch woodland, fenland and wet grassland. Nordoe is listed as a habitat for species such as the natterjack toad, common spadefoot, great crested newt, sand lizard, green-eyed hawker, woodlark and eagle owl.

Culture

The history of Krempermoor is closely linked to peat extraction. Historically, hand tools such as the Jager, Stikker, Buntspaten, Kreite and a shovel were used for this purpose. The local peat extraction method known as Torfbacken involves lifting peat soil from the peat cutting using a three- to four-metre-long scoop pole and a net. The Krempermoor Moor Days demonstrate historical peat cutting and the processing of peat into finished peat sods. The coat of arms also recalls this past: it depicts a peat form and a peat scoop as symbols of wet peat extraction, which was practised until the 1960s.

Getting Around

Krempermoor is connected to Itzehoe by bus; Kremperheide railway station is located directly on the northern edge of the village. On the section of the Geestrand Tour between Neuenbrook and Krempermoor, the transition between the flat marshland and the gently rolling geest is particularly visible. After Neuenbrook, the Geestrand Tour follows the Moorwettern through Krempermoor.

Leisure

The moor ponds and shore areas are used for recreation and fishing. The moor offers opportunities for walking, and skating takes place seasonally on frozen ponds. The Bagger and Moor Lakes route in Kremperheide is 8.4 kilometres long.
