Krempe: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Krempe is located in the Kremper Marsch within the Elbe marshes north of the Lower Elbe.

The local leisure facilities include Krempe outdoor swimming pool, a heated open-air pool near the town’s school and sports centre.

Nature

The 10-kilometre Stör Hiking Trail is a circular route through the flat marshland. It offers wide views from the dikes over the loops of the Stör, wetland vegetation, a historic drainage pumping station dating from 1884, and a bird resting area in the outer foreland of the dike.

In the historic town centre, Circular Walk 1, “Historic Town Centre”, runs for 1.5 kilometres through streets that formed the centre of Krempe during the fortress period. Circular Hiking Trail 3, “Around Krempe”, is an approximately five-kilometre circular route along the edge of the town, offering wide views across the marshland and changing views of Krempe’s panorama of towers. Circular Hiking Trail 4, “Along the Au to Süderau”, follows a historic remnant of the dike along the Kremper Au to Süderau and returns along the left bank; the route is five kilometres long. Circular Hiking Trail 5, “Around Schmerland”, is an approximately five-kilometre route through the fields of neighbouring Grevenkop, lined with rows of trees and the Schmerlander Wettern.

Culture

Krempe’s historic town hall is one of the significant Renaissance buildings in Schleswig-Holstein and was built in 1570.

The three-nave St. Peter’s Church is a well-preserved Hansen church. It was built by F. C. Heylmann according to plans by Christian Frederik Hansen between 1828 and 1832. Its tower consists of simple classical forms and is crowned by a lantern.

The flag-swinging ceremony in Krempe is described as a regionally significant event in the Steinburg district.

History

In its final form, Krempe Fortress had six bastions and two ravelins, as well as a 4.5-metre wall and a 25-metre moat. The castle moat in the town park preserves a section of the former fortress moat. Mühlenberg preserves the site of the former south-eastern bastion of Krempe Fortress.

Getting Around

The Kremper Marsch offers a flat landscape for cycling tours, with few significant climbs; cycle paths lead out from Krempe along state and district roads. A section of the Mönchsweg runs through the Kremper Marsch and Krempe.
