Glücksburg (Baltic Sea): Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Glücksburg combines historic culture, paths through the countryside, water activities, swimming and sports to create a diverse townscape on the Baltic Sea.
Culture and History
Glücksburg Castle was built from 1582 to 1587 on the orders of Duke Johann (Hans) the Younger. In 1923, it was opened to the public as a museum. The castle museum housed a collection of culturally and historically valuable works of art, tapestries, porcelain and furniture. In the castle park, the classical orangery can be rented for concerts, art exhibitions and other events. There is also a free audio guide app for Glücksburg Castle.
Nature and Trails
The Fördesteig is a coastal hiking trail more than 95 kilometres long that reaches Glücksburg. The Glücksburg Forest Museum presents an exhibition about native animals and their forest habitat; the descriptions are written in German and Danish. The museum also has a collection of Neolithic finds from Glücksburg’s past.
Water and Beach
The Hanseatic Yachtschule Glücksburg is located directly on the Flensburg Firth and within sight of the Danish coast. It combines practical sailing experience with theoretical instruction. The municipal beach facilities at Sandwig offer swimming, long walks and play opportunities for families. Stand-up paddleboards can be rented there; there are also SUP courses and events, restaurants and cafés along the promenade, as well as beach chair rental.
Leisure and Sports
Fördeland Therme features a children’s area with a lighthouse slide and paddling pool, as well as a 25-metre sports lane. The sauna area has five saunas, ranging from a steam sauna to a fire sauna. Menke Planetarium regularly offers public events, lectures and astronomical presentations. Förde Golf Club Glücksburg has an 18-hole course with views across the Flensburg Firth.
