Schönhorst: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Schönhorst is situated in very hilly terrain and is described as a recreational area for Kiel. Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Schönhorst can then continue their search for accommodation.

Nature

Extensive woodland areas are located in the north of Schönhorst. Small ponds, wet forests and ecologically valuable succession areas can be found there. The south of Schönhorst is characterised by intensive grassland farming; numerous small bodies of water are scattered throughout this grassland. A relatively well-developed hedgerow system completes the landscape.

The Strom watercourse flows from north to south through the entire municipality. The Schönhorster Graben flows into the Strom. Local ditches drain southwards towards Bothkamper See and the Eider. In the southeast, there is an unobstructed view towards Bothkamper See.

Hiking

New hiking trails were created during the reforestation in 1992. A circular trail leads into the Schönhorster Gehege and crosses a stream that flows towards Bothkamper See. Along the circular trail, there are views of Bothkamper See, the church in Kirchbarkau and Bothkamp Manor House. The route is estimated to take around five hours.

History

The history of the village dates back at least to 1334: at that time, Sifried and Eler von Bissee sold half of the village of Schönhorst to Heinrich Godethit.

Schleswig-Holstein has 13 developed long-distance cycle routes and numerous regional routes that support cycling holidays.

Geographical Location

State road 307 runs through Schönhorst from west to east and connects state road 318 with federal road 404. The circular trail described can be reached by car via the A 21 or the B 404 and the Kirchbarkau exit. Bus route 410 takes you from Kiel Central Station/ZOB to the Kirchbarkau, Am Alten Bahnhof stop.
