Rodenbek: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Rodenbek includes the “Ahrensee and northeastern Westensee” nature reserve. In addition, Rodenbek is part of the “Upper Eider region including lakes” FFH area and the “NSG Ahrensee and northeastern Westensee” EU Special Protection Area for birds. Rodenbek also includes the protected “Westensee landscape”.

Westensee Nature Park has a signposted network of cycling and bridle paths and offers hikes through nature and landscape conservation areas. Small lakes in Westensee Nature Park offer opportunities for swimming; fishing is possible in the streams, rivers and lakes there.

Guided cycling tours in Westensee Nature Park visit viewpoints and places of interest. A 22 km regional hiking route leads through the Eider lowlands to Ahrensee and onwards via Hohenhude, Wrohe and Westensee.

Canoe and kayak trips on the Eider Ring Canal can reach the Kiel Canal or Westensee. A 33 km cycling loop runs through the Eider valley, along the Eider Ring Canal and via Hohenhude and Wrohe around Westensee.

Between Kiel and Flintbek, the Eider Valley hiking trail has bus connections; railway stations are located in Flintbek and Bordesholm.
