Culture and History

The Tree Church in Neu Duvenstedt is a replica of Rendsburg’s St. Mary’s Church at a scale of 1:4. Public church services are held there on special feast days, including Easter Monday and Harvest Thanksgiving Sunday. The Tree Church is also available for weddings and baptisms.

The colony of Neu Duvenstedt, consisting of 15 farms, was founded between 1761 and 1764 as part of the settlement of the Schleswig Geest. A dugout hut was discovered on what is now the Colonist Farm and restored to its former condition. The Colonist House was later built with the exact proportions of the old colonist house.

The Colonist Farm in Neu Duvenstedt is described as a 14-hectare outdoor site open year-round, with activity stations and walking paths in the Hüttener Berge Nature Park. The Colonist Farm nature experience area presents the lives of the colonists who settled and cultivated the landscape. The grounds include a cultural trail and animal enclosures. The sculpture trail can be explored independently or as part of a guided tour.

Nature and Trails

Neu Duvenstedt lies on the edge of the Duvenstedter Berge in a largely agricultural, natural glacial moraine landscape. A 3.2-kilometre Nordic walking loop on the grounds of the Colonist Farm leads through the Duvenstedter Berge, shaped during the Ice Age. The loop has an information board and small trail markers.

The Colonist Farm offers walks through the surrounding landscape. The Wildes SH trekking site at the Colonist Farm also offers a 500-square-metre area for spending a night under the stars. Twelve farms in the colony were established in the Duvenstedter Berge on the edge of the Hüttener Berge.

Cycling and Route Guidance

The Colonist Farm’s trekking facilities are intended for people travelling by bicycle or on foot. Route 3 in the Hüttener Berge Nature Park is an approximately 28-kilometre circular cycling route with a detour to the Colonist Farm nature experience area in Neu Duvenstedt. The Colonist Farm can be reached by following the K1 towards Ahlefeld and then turning off at Bornbarg.
