Haby features on the Groß Wittensee–Schlaukweg–Haby hiking route: The route initially follows Lake Wittensee and passes a bathing area. It likewise leads through the Haby recreational forest, where the Brobach meanders naturally.

Nature

Culture

The memorial trees in Haby can be found on a short walk through the village. At the junction of Eckernförder Straße and Wiehenredder stands a preserved peace oak ensemble. It includes a stone bearing the inscription “Peace! 1870–71”. Haby also preserves an original double oak with a memorial stone on the village square. A Unity Oak with a memorial stone commemorating German reunification on 3 October 1990 stands on the large village square.

The partially preserved Alte Kirchweg near Haby connected Haby with Sehestedt for religious and other cultural events. Three stepping stones still indicate the northern section of the historic Alte Kirchweg near Haby. Haby was first documented in 1283 under the historical spelling “Hagebe”. Finds from burial chambers and megalithic tombs in the surrounding area indicate early human activity.

Local

Local businesses include the long-established horticultural producer Blumen Colmorgen, with flowers grown in its greenhouse and an on-site shop selling plants, garden materials and floristry services.

The Landgasthof Haby-Krog serves fresh country-style cuisine in Haby in the Hüttener Berge Nature Park and combines modern Mediterranean cuisine with regional country cooking. The inn uses herbs from its own herb garden for its dishes and offers handmade chocolates. According to its own account, it obtains most of its vegetables and salad from organic farms in the region.

UnsHabyLand offers sheep’s wool, hand-spun yarn and a spinning group. The business also operates a farm shop with products from its animals and focuses on the use and preservation of old livestock breeds, including sheep and other farm animals. The Naturpark-Hüttener-Berge explorer backpack is associated with the Lehmsiek restaurant in Haby.
