Brekendorf: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Brekendorf can continue their accommodation search afterwards. The landscape ranges from 10 to 106 metres above sea level and was largely shaped by the last ice age.

Nature

In the eastern part of Brekendorf, 400 hectares of wooded ridges lie within a protected landscape area. The western area comprises 120 hectares of moorland. Rare vegetation, including juniper, can be found on the Heidberg; the Heidberg is also protected as a natural monument. In clear weather, the view extends over fields, lakes and forests.

Rammsee is a glacial kettle lake formed from blocks of ice left behind by the ice age, and at the same time a forest lake with water lilies and reeds. To protect sensitive shoreline flora and fauna, a footbridge was built there, ending at a small platform.

Hiking and Cycling

The Brekendorf Forest lies in the terminal moraines of the Hüttener Berge. Brekendorf is part of the Hüttener Berge Nature Park. There is a signposted 15-kilometre mountain bike trail there. The Hütti Trail comprises marked loops and shortcuts that can optionally be used and rejoin the main course.

A local walking trail begins at Rammsee, leads through the Brekendorf Forest and reaches the Heidberg. The Hüttener Berge Nature Park has 20 signposted circular hiking trails and six signposted circular cycling routes. The wider regional area of the Rendsburg-Eckernförde district offers five long-distance cycle routes, five e-bike tours and twelve themed routes.

Culture

The remains of a motte-and-bailey castle are still clearly visible in the countryside near Brekendorf. Historically, Brekendorf was the penultimate stop on the former narrow-gauge railway between Eckernförde and Owschlag.

Regional Products

Schröder Organic Farm offers regional vegetables as well as Bioland Angus beef and pork, including meat from the Bunte Bentheimer pig. The farm has a direct sales outlet, and interested visitors are welcome.
