Ascheffel is located in the landscape of Hüttener Berge Nature Park. The Aschberg is 98 metres high and offers wide-ranging views over the very hilly surrounding area. The 36.5-kilometre section of the Hüttener Berge Nature Park hiking trail includes the Aschberg. The nature park hiking trail, which is 180 kilometres long in total, crosses the landscape of Hüttener Berge from Maasholm towards the Kiel Canal. The Aschberg attraction includes a 20-metre-high observation tower.
Learning and discovery
The Aschberg Green Classroom was established on the Aschberg in 2021. It is freely accessible and serves as a starting point for excursions to nearby hedgerows.
The cube puzzle in the Aschberg Green Classroom matches leaves, fruit, flowers and the names of shrubs to one another in order to introduce the shrub species found in the hedgerow. The tree puzzle at the Aschberg Green Classroom enables visitors to compare bark, heartwood and weight and to examine annual rings.
History
Around 1550, there was a glassworks in Ascheffel. In 1633, Duke Frederick III commissioned a paper mill in Ascheffel.
The Bismarck statue, made of sheet copper, was unveiled on the Aschberg in September 1930 after being moved there from Knivsberg near Apenrade. It was created by the Schleswig-Holstein sculptor Adolf Brütt.
