The Stentener Mill in Alt Duvenstedt was built between 1697 and 1699; it is described as a local landmark and has well-preserved sails. The Alt Duvenstedt Village Museum includes a reconstruction of an old oven and a restored half-timbered wall dating from 1780. The name “Duvenstede” first appeared in written records in 1328.
Nature
Alt Duvenstedt is located on the edge of Hüttener Berge Nature Park, whose glacial terminal moraine landscape includes hedgerows, avenues, lakes, forests, and moors. The municipality includes the Duvenstedt Moor, a raised bog and remarkable biotope with prospects for regeneration.
Alt Duvenstedt is one of the two municipalities in Central Holstein located within Hüttener Berge Nature Park.
Things to Do
Five regional cycling and hiking circular routes are signposted in Alt Duvenstedt. The village is connected by several paths to the wider cycling and hiking network and has several rest areas with shelters. Lake Bistensee lies along these routes; there is no public bathing area there because the surrounding land is privately owned.
A path approximately 300 metres long offers views over the lowland areas of the Otterbek and Stente. A cycling and hiking loop in Alt Duvenstedt includes the Kolonistenhof. The Alt Duvenstedt routes are included in the route planners of the NOK Tourist Information Office.
Alt Duvenstedt has an outdoor swimming pool.
