The water-powered station at Helmstorf Estate has been in operation since 1895. Initially, it supplied the estate, and later Lütjenburg, with electricity. After receiving a new generator in the 1990s, it continues to operate. Helmstorf's cultural heritage sites include the Old School dating from 1821 in Kühren, which received an award for heritage preservation in 2006, the earth-sheltered potato barn at Meierhof Wetterade, and the Helmstorf estate complex with its manor house, large barns and outbuildings.
