Nature
The 582-hectare Himmelmoor nature reserve covers areas in Hemdingen. It protects remaining raised bog areas and bog forests, fens, wet meadows, species-rich grassland, standing bodies of water, and former peat extraction sites.
Industrial peat extraction in Himmelsmoor ended in 2018.
Cycling
The Ochsenweg from Wedel to Jutland runs through the western part of Hemdingen as a cycle route with a rest area. Depending on the route variant, the Ochsenweg is approximately 240 kilometres long and connects bog landscapes, forests, geest landscapes, historic sites, and towns away from heavily trafficked roads.
History
In northeastern Hemdingen, the remaining prehistoric burial mounds form the Süllbarg nature area on the edge of Vielmoor. The area was designated a nature reserve in 1935.
Outside Hemdingen, there is an information board for visitors on Heeder Straße near Hof Kühl. It provides cyclists with information about the village and its history and also covers the nearby bogs and their historical use.

Shopping in Hemdingen includes several farm shops and a number of farms selling their products directly. There are also two butcher's shops, a wine retailer, and a bakery.
The L111 and L195 roads connect Hemdingen with Quickborn, Barmstedt, and the A7 and A23 motorways. Bus route 294 provides public transport connections on weekdays and links to the AKN railway network via Quickborn and Barmstedt.
