Appen: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Tävsmoor is located in Appen, the northern part of the approximately 150-hectare Tävsmoor/Haselauer Moor nature reserve. The moor drains via the Appener Beek into the Pinnau. Nature

The Tävsmoor/Haselauer Moor nature reserve contains more than 300 vascular plant species, including at least 40 species listed on Schleswig-Holstein’s Red List of Ferns and Flowering Plants. Anyone walking in the protected area should remain on the paths; dogs must be kept on a lead.

At the Gut Schäferhof nature experience area, the local natural environment is explained at several information stations, in an educational garden and at an observation station by the lake. The display and educational garden at Gut Schäferhof includes stations designed to encourage practical participation and learning about nature. This includes the “Herb Person”, a herb garden bed shaped like a person. Schäferhof is described as a destination for excursions with a role in environmental education.

The Ole Pein tree nursery welcomes visitors by prior appointment. Appener See is a former gravel pit.

Paths and Regional Park

Appen is one of the municipalities involved in the cross-border Wedeler Au Regional Park. Its projects promote nature conservation and nature-oriented local recreation. The regional park offers signposted cycling routes through meadows, pastures, forests and tree nurseries. Three themed routes are operated in the regional park, named the Elbe Route, Dune Route and Forest Route.

History

Appen is first documented in an official deed of gift issued by Heinrich von Barmstede on 19 September 1269. Appen’s local history archive is located in the municipal rooms at Gärtnerstraße 10, a five-minute walk from the Bouhlentwiete bus stop; visits should be arranged by email.
