Oevenum: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The private village museum “Life in the Countryside” in Oevenum presents rural island life as it looked around 100 years ago.

History

The Peace Oak was planted in 1871 and is treated as a historic cultural asset. The fire station near Oevenum’s village square was renovated in 2013 and contains an exhibition.

Landscape

Oevenum is described as being located in the marshland of Föhr and as a suitable starting point for exploring the island. Visitors can explore the village on foot via small lanes lined with thatched Frisian houses and landscaped gardens. Village Life

Matzen Goat Farm is listed in Oevenum in the overview of farm shops and regional products on Föhr. Oevenum’s farm shop sells sheep and lamb products, including cheese, sausage and skins, and holds a public sheep-shearing demonstration almost every Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. during the season.

Oevenum’s village market takes place in the village centre on Thursdays during the summer months. It offers Föhr specialities such as cheese, jam, waffles and organic meat products, sells souvenirs from Föhr and collections by local designers, and also stocks photography, lamb products and selected accessories.

Getting Around

Visitors can encounter sheep and alpacas at Juishof in Oevenum. The cycling route “Into the Heart of the Island – The Marsh Routes” begins in Oevenum.
