History
Until the 18th century, Langeneß consisted of three Hallig islands: Langeneß, Butwehl, and Nordmarsch. Coastal engineering works brought them together by 1869.
Culture
A replica of the Peter Hansen Bock windmill was erected in 1995 in Ketelswarf in front of the Kapitän Tadsen Museum. A replica of the historic sailing trolley was also built in Ketelswarf in 2004.
The Friesenstube on Honkenswarf is a small family museum. It presents exhibitions on the cultural, economic, and social history of the Hallig islands. Most of its collection comes from family possessions, including objects brought back by whaling captains, England voyagers, and Hallig steersmen.
The historic Hallig church on Langeneß contains a painted winged altarpiece donated by two Langeneß sailors in 1670. The Kultur auf den Halligen program offers concerts on Hallig Langeneß from May to September.
Travel by public transport involves taking Regional Express 6 to Bredstedt, followed by a connecting bus to the ferry port of Schlüttsiel. Hallig Langeneß can be reached year-round by the MS Hilligenlei ferry from Schlüttsiel.
