Schulendorf: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Cycling

A dedicated cycle path connects Büchen and Schulendorf along the L205. Schulendorf has numerous cycling and hiking trails leading on excursions in all directions. The Duchy of Lauenburg has 1,000 kilometres of signposted cycle paths, four long-distance cycle routes and 13 themed circular routes. Marked regional routes can be planned according to length and difficulty and can focus on nature, history or culture.

History

Schulendorf and Bartelsdorf were first documented in 1230 under the historical names Sculenthorp and Bertoldestorp. Franzhagen was first mentioned in 1605. At Franzhof, Duke Franz II had a manor house and an adjoining chapel built. The Franzhof complex was demolished in 1716; the name Franzhof preserves Schulendorf’s ducal heritage. The Neue Mühle was built in 1690 to replace the Mordmühle, which had been destroyed during the Thirty Years’ War.

The Baarsteich was created as a storage reservoir, while the Hofgraben was dug as a deep canal to the palace. The Old Salt Road was a medieval trade route along which salt was transported overland from Lüneburg to Lübeck. Parts of the Elbe-Lübeck Canal follow the old route of the Stecknitz-Delvenau Canal from the 14th century.

Landscape

The regional cycling landscape includes extensive forests, meadows, pastures, lakes, streams and the Elbe-Lübeck Canal. The Büchen administrative district and its landscape can be explored on foot, by bicycle or by canoe on the Elbe-Lübeck Canal. A long-distance cycle route runs from Lüneburg to Lübeck along the Elbe-Lübeck Canal through the Büchen administrative district.

The route passes the lock near Witzeeze, the ferry near Siebeneichen, as well as fieldstone churches and stork nests. The Elbe-Lübeck Canal is described as a destination for water sports, hiking and cycling. The Lauenburg Lakes Nature Park and the Schaalsee Biosphere Reserve offer opportunities for horseback riding, canoeing, cycling and hiking.

Agriculture

Bartelsdorf has a large potato farm offering direct sales from the farm.
