St. Salvatoris Church is a half-timbered church in the oldest part of the city; the present building was erected in 1685. The Krügersche House was built in 1676 as a Low German hall house. It is Geesthacht’s oldest surviving building and houses the Tourist Information and the GeesthachtMuseum.
History
Another historical destination is the “Karoline” steam railway. It runs on selected weekends between Geesthacht and Bergedorf, including along a short stretch directly beside the Elbe, and offers a family-oriented historical journey.
In the Grünhof district, the Bronze Age burial hut can be visited at any time. The excavated burial site still features stone arrangements and postholes. It can be reached via a signposted footpath from near the B5; there is no direct access for cars.
