Nature

The protected Speicherkoog Dithmarschen (Nordkoog) landscape area covers 710 hectares and includes the municipality of Wöhrden.

Culture

The former Victory Church stood on Dithmarschen’s highest terp, 6.24 metres above sea level. St. Nicolai Church replaced this building; the Victory Church had been erected after Wöhrden’s victory over the Holstein counts in 1319. St. Nicolai Church contains the Anthonius Wilde organ from 1593, an altar relief from 1613, a chandelier from 1643, and a wooden hanging baptismal angel from 1788.

The Materialienhaus near the church is described as the oldest house in Dithmarschen. It was built in 1519 as a windowless oak storage building with a thatched roof and served as an emergency church from 1778 to 1788. The inscription “Waterbörs” is associated with an evening meeting place for neighbours and friends.
