Nordermeldorf Beach is approximately 600 metres long. Extensive parking areas lie behind the dike; the beach has a kiosk and sanitary facilities. There is a large sunbathing lawn on the dike slope.

Showers and steps over the rock embankment provide access to the water and mudflats. The marked bathing area has gently sloping water, and lifeguards supervise swimming. A 200-metre-long section in the northern part of the beach is designated for visitors with dogs.

Nature

After the Speicherkoog was diked off in 1979, the North Sea mudflats developed into a distinctive natural landscape. The Speicherkoog is described as an internationally important resting area for birds and a nationally important breeding area.

Expert local organisations offer guided walks through the Speicherkoog and the North Sea mudflat landscape. The Wattwurm Information Centre is a starting point for guided walks. At times, more than 10,000 birds of a single species can land on the open grassland and mudflat areas of the Speicherkoog.

Culture and Cycling

Nordermeldorf’s Juliane is a gallery Dutch windmill and is designated as HISTOUR point M53. As part of the Kultur.Wind.Mühle programme, it is used for cultural events.

The Mill Route is a 39.91-kilometre thematic circular cycling route of moderate difficulty. It runs through meadows and fields, reaches Juliane Mill in Nordermeldorf and is signposted.
