Krumstedt: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Landscape

The Krumstedt raised bog is located in the district forest. Between Krumstedt and Schafstedt, the Landschaftliches Hochmoor nature area is situated in a spruce forest; it covers around 23 hectares. The moor formed in a closed depression above an impermeable soil layer and has survived drainage, peat extraction and afforestation. The district forest is also popular with mushroom gatherers.

History

Stone Age finds point to Krumstedt's very ancient settlement history. The village was first mentioned in a papal document in 1208. In the 16th and 17th centuries, the Ochsenweg trade route between Dithmarschen and Holstein passed through Krumstedt. The conflict of 1288 between the people of Dithmarschen and the Holsteiners, known as the Hare War, is described in the local history of Krumstedt.

Things to Do

Krumstedt offers extensive opportunities for cycling, horse riding and hiking, as well as cafés for breaks and relaxation. The village also has signposting for the district's cycle network. The Krumstedt Nativity Trail is a walking route decorated each year during Advent with numerous Nativity scenes. Krumstedt is described as a central base for exploring attractions throughout Dithmarschen.

Radcafé Schnepel offers cyclists a place to take a break and also welcomes motorists and walkers. The facilities include a charging station for e-bikes. The garden has a play area with a slide, swing and other play equipment. Homemade cakes and gateaux, ice cream sundaes and savoury lunch dishes are served.

The Tumat farm shop sells barbecue meat, sausages, cold cuts and dishes from the field kitchen. The range includes regional eggs and honey, homemade jam, herbs and handcrafted items made of wool, clay and wood.
