Kronprinzenkoog: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Kronprinzenkoog was diked at public expense between 1785 and 1787. The polder was named after Friedrich VI, who was Crown Prince at the time and later became King of Denmark.
The Koog Church is the only protected building in Kronprinzenkoog. The western tower of Kronprinzenkoog Church is 40 metres high. Kronprinzenkoog Church is suitable for visits in any weather, for groups and for individual guests.
A monument commemorates the deaths of all 47 crew members and the pilot; 31 of the victims are buried in the cemetery. In the cemetery next to Kronprinzenkoog Church stands a stele created in 1866 by the sculptor Adolf Müllenhoff from Marne, commemorating the Schleswig-Holstein Navy. The memorial stele records the capsizing of Schleswig-Holstein gunboat number eight off the Elbe on 9 November 1850.
Landscape
Kronprinzenkoog is a marsh polder between fields of wheat, sugar beets and cabbage. Meadows, pastures and wide-open fields are described as a peaceful recreational landscape in the Dithmarschen marshland.
The Steertloch drainage pumping station was converted from an outer-dike sluice into a pumping station in 2018 and has a total pumping capacity of 10.8 cubic metres per second. The Sommerkoog-Steertloch sluice was converted into a pumping station to support the drainage of the inland area in view of the rapid morphological changes in Meldorf Bay.
Cycling
The Steertloch drainage pumping station in Kronprinzenkoog can be reached on foot or by bicycle and is located on the North Sea Coast Cycle Route. The 54.01-kilometre seal route is a moderately difficult themed circular cycle route with panoramic views; Kronprinzenkoog Church is one of its named waypoints.
Information boards installed outdoors at the Steertloch drainage pumping station explain the facility’s function as well as coastal protection, climate change and water management.
Kronprinzenkoog is located within Europe’s largest contiguous cabbage-growing region.
