Culture and History

Arkebek is home to many protected burial mounds and protected stone graves. The mounds of the Arkebeker Feld were originally enclosed by stone circles and were enlarged through repeated subsequent burials. Several burial mounds northeast of Arkebek are among the largest Bronze Age burial mounds in Schleswig-Holstein.

Another prominent local attraction is Arkebek’s wind-shaped hornbeam. It leans with the wind from west to east, thereby avoiding breakage. Only a fraction of the former mounds of the Arkebeker Feld has survived. Damage to the protected mounds of the Arkebeker Feld is prohibited.

Cycling

The Arkebek project expanded a bicycle charging station for e-bikes. A pavilion in Arkebek is intended to serve as a resting place for users of the tourist cycle route between Albersdorf and Heide.

Classification

Arkebek is part of the Albersdorf & Surroundings visitor area. Protected burial mounds and stone graves are located along district road 40; the road passes Arkebek between Albersdorf and Schrum.
