Culture

Mühltroff Castle is a lowland castle first mentioned in historical records in 1349. It was built as a lowland castle on a greenstone rock and formerly served as a seat of government and administration. The castle houses a local history room and a textile demonstration workshop. The Kospoth Hall and the fireplace room at Mühltroff Castle are used for exhibitions, concerts and weddings. The medieval defensive and observation tower is described as the architectural centrepiece of Mühltroff Castle. The art gallery in the castle presents changing exhibitions every year.

St. Michaelis Church in Pausa was rebuilt in 1825 after the town fire of 1822. A Steinmüller organ with two manuals and 20 stops was installed there in 1831. Railway history is also visible: the historic Mühltroff railway station building has been preserved on the Schönberg–Schleiz West railway line.

The Mühltroff GDR Museum preserves memories of 40 years of everyday life in the former GDR and displays more than 4,000 small and large exhibits across approximately 300 square metres in ten rooms.
