The Falkenstein–Oelsnitz cycle path runs through Bergen. It leads from Falkenstein railway station through Bergen, Lottengrün and Altmannsgrün to Oelsnitz railway station. The route begins and ends directly at railway stations, making it possible to return by Vogtlandbahn.

In the surrounding area, a disused section of the railway line was converted into the Falkenstein–Oelsnitz cycle path and opened in 2011. Along the cycle tour is the Neue Scheune Bergen, an exhibition site for folk art and an attraction along the route.

Landscape

Bergen's rural character is shaped by old farmhouses and orchards. Bergen also offers an approximately 10 km circular adventure trail where visitors can explore the surrounding nature.

The village center has a barbecue area, a volleyball court and a pond. The recreation area in the center offers a view of Mount Harzberg.

Streuberg is a geotope in the center of Bergen and also a disused granite quarry containing Bergen-type two-mica granite. The contact between granite and slate is exposed at the upper benches in the southwestern part of the quarry. The Streuberg Quarry is the type locality of the uranium mineral uranocircite. Bergenite was discovered on a spoil heap at Streuberg in 1956 and named after Bergen.

Culture and History

Instrument making is a traditional craft in the Vogtland region. The history of the railway is also present in the surrounding area: the Herlasgrün–Oelsnitz railway line was originally part of the Voigtland State Railway and opened in November 1865.

Regional Area

Streuberg is a starting point for varied excursions in the Vogtland region. Around its forests and green hills, the Vogtland offers opportunities for hiking, cycling and mountain biking. It can be reached by ICE and regional rail connections, which serve stops including Plauen and Auerbach.
